Terremark and Navisite’s acquisition is part of the M&A momentum in data centers. Mergers typically reduce costs and reduce overlap between organizations to provide services which is a good way to green a data center. Reducing the amount of data center assets you need.

Is Savvis positioning to be bought?

WSJ reports on the rumors that Savvis is a takeover target.

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Savvis Inc. (SVVS) Chief Executive Jim Ousley said Wednesday that his company is generating more interest from bankers and inquiring parties as takeover speculation ramps up following recent deals in the data-storage sector.

Ousley acknowledged the company has had more strategic discussions than usual but isn't feeling pressure to act in the short term. He said Savvis will continue to operate just like it did before Verizon Communications Inc.'s (VZ) recent deal for rival Terremark Worldwide Inc. (TMRK) was announced.

Online retailer and provider of public-cloud servicesAmazon bought a large property in Dublin, Ireland, with plans to turn it into a data center, Independent.ie reported.
The 240,000-sq-ft building is a former storage facility of the supermarket chain Tesco, which moved out more than two years ago. The property, sitting on a 13-acre site had been on the market ever since its last occupant left.

Palatine, Ill. – February 9, 2011 – Eighty-eight percent of Fortune 1000 senior executives feel business has a moral responsibility, beyond regulatory requirements, to make their companies more energy efficient, according to a new poll released today by Harris Interactive and commissioned by Schneider Electric. At the same time, the vast majority (61 percent) of respondents say that potential cost savings are their biggest motivator to save energy at the enterprise-level, outranking environmental concerns (13 percent) or government regulations (2 percent).
