Where will Equinix be expanding next?

Equinix is the top in carrier neutral data centers and internet exchanges.  With Verizon’s move buying Terremark, the Telcos are looking to expand leveraging their networks.

While researching a project for a client I was looking at Cloud Computing data centers and found an Equinix presentation that gave a lot of details on future growth.  Besides Equinix there are cloud presentations from IBM, HP, Dell, EMC, VMware, Wipro, and Telco.  The presentations were downloaded from a public site with no password logon.

Here are some of the slides from the Equinix presentation that I found interesting.

California attempts to make the environment a higher priority the profit

Joel Makower has a post on a bill introduced into the the California state Senate.

California’s Bold Move to Legitimize Sustainable Business

A bill introduced in California’s state Senate last week holds enormous potential to give sustainable business a push by making it — well, legal.

Under current law in California and most other states, companies can be sued by their shareholders or investors for taking environmental or social measures that negatively affect shareholders’ financial returns. The proposed bill would enable a new form of for-profit corporation, encouraging and expressly permitting companies to pursue other things besides simply making money.

Oops almost lost 300 RSS readers in move to Squarespace

On Monday 5:30p, Feb 7, 2011 I made the switch from TypePad to Squarespace.  I had a list of tasks to do.  Here is my initial list.

  1.
    1. Write one blog entry on TypePad saying in the process of moving.
    2. Set up SquareSpace account.  Move content over.
    3. Cancel Chartbeat.
    4. Domain switch from typepad to squarespace
    5. Setup Feedburner, Google Analytics, Adsense.
    6. Keep Typepad up and running for a while.

All of this was OK and up and running in less than an hour.  But, the next morning a friend said his RSS reader wasn’t working to my site.  I checked Feedburner to see if the feed was working.  The RSS feed was working, and I thought I fixed the RSS feed redirect.  After another couple of days, I see I had gone from 1,200 RSS subscribers to 900, losing 300 subscribers.

WA state denies stop work request for Microsoft data center based on Diesel Generator emissions, construction project continues

There is an environmental group in Washington state who wanted to eliminate the use of diesel generators at Microsoft’s data center expansion in Quincy, WA.  Microsoft has approval to continue with the expansion.

The group is led by a former Quincy mayor.

The group, led by former Quincy mayor Patty Martin, asked the PCHB to halt construction at the site in northwest Quincy until MYTAPN’s appeal of a Department of Ecology permit allowing the company to install 13 new diesel generators on the site is heard in July.

About Me section

As part of the move to Squarespace I used the default “about me” location and changed what I wrote.

In the past I had the “about” buried in the UI and gave a resume type of description.

After over three years of blogging on Green Data Centers I decided to change the description.  Here is what is now up at about me.

In 2007 I started blogging on the Green Data Center topic.  During these years, I have met great people who have a passion for greening the data center.  Two guys at the top of the list are Mike Manos and Olivier Sanche.  Both were clients and who have been become great friends.  Unfortunately, Olivier is no longer with us and passed away suddenly at the age of 41.
